Russian has always been one of the widely spoken languages in the world, and, according to recent research, with more than 500 million Russian-language speakers, it is the world’s third most commonly spoken language after Chinese (more than 1 billion speakers) and English (750 million). It is one of the official or working languages in many international organizations (e.g. UN, UNESCO, IAEA, WHO, etc). The number of specialized Russian classes and Russian schools is constantly increasing in Europe. More and more students learn Russian as their second foreign language. More and more economists, managers, lawyers, people in the arts, and those who take part in different international projects and have international contacts are interested in Russian culture and language.
Moscow is Russia's economic and political centre and with around 11 million inhabitants mainland Europe's' biggest city. While the losers of the reforms are easily spotted elsewhere in the country, in Moscow, everyone seems to be a winner - or at least a wannabe winner. Moscow is the melting pot of a collapsed empire, both European and Asiatic. Skyscrapers shoot up like mushrooms, the city centre is being mercilessly renovated and new temples to consumerism open their portals daily.
Liden & Denz was founded in 1992 as a private company teaching Russian to foreigners. The school, which is one hundred percent Swiss owned, was recognized by the local St Petersburg government as a private language training institute in 1995. International recognition followed when, in 1997, Liden & Denz became the first Russian school to join the International Association of Language Centers. IALC member schools are committed to guaranteeing the highest standards of language teaching within an efficient and reliable organization.
Our centre is located in the central part of the city, a short walk from the Belorusskaya Railway Station, a terminus for trains from Berlin and Warsaw. Our premises are on the ground floor of a building that belongs to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Liden & Denz Moscow features ten classrooms and is equipped with the latest technology (several workstations with wireless Internet for our students, LCD TV and DVD sets in most classrooms). At school we offer coffee and tea free of charge. Moderately priced places for lunch can be found around the corner from the school.
The Liden & Denz Language Centre St. Petersburg
Situated in the historical city centre, the school is located on the second floor of a historic 19th century building. The area offers some of the finest examples of St.Petersburg architecture and is close to the Fontanka and Neva rivers. The closest metro station is a five minute walk away. A wide range of cafés, bars, restaurants and shops are available just across the street.
The school combine intensive studies with a wide range of excursions and other cultural and social activities year round to give our students an opportunity to acquaint themselves with the magnificent citie of Moscow and with the way of life in Russia.
Liden & Denz does not offer light 'holiday' courses. All our programs are intensive, demand full participation and require a certain dose of self-discipline. However, our serious yet pragmatic approach to language teaching does not hinder us from maintaining an informal atmosphere in and around the school.
Teachers, teaching plans and textbooks are all geared towards a comparatively high speed of learning. For most levels we recommend three to twelve weeks in a general group course or two to eight weeks for one-to-one tuition. For general group courses we use our own text book, developed by the school and regularly tested and improved.
The language in the classroom is Russian, however, we encourage the use of bilingual dictionaries and our teachers will use, where needed, supplementary explanations in English, German and French.
